IMAGINE having a real-life fairy godmother to help you create the perfect cheap wedding dresses for your big day.
Popular Annandale milliner Sandie Bizys, dubbed by clients the uber-chic “fairy godmother” of vintage bridal styling, will now branch out, focusing on reworking and restoring gowns for modern brides.
Legions of brides-to-be in search of something different would visit her Parramatta Rd vintage boutique
“The clients who visited my studio were constantly seeking an alternative to the traditional bridal gown,” Ms Bizys said.
The milliner, an Annandale business owner for more than a decade, collects old fabrics, beading and buttons and works with a seamstress on her creations.
“Sometimes a client will bring me her grandmother’s wedding dress and if the fabric is strong enough, we will build this into her new wedding gown,” she said.
But sizing is a challenge.
“Waists of yesteryear were impossibly small and gowns were considerably more modest.
“I often say (vintage bridal) is neck to toe, with a train from here to Glebe.”
Ms Bizys is often asked by clients to style the entire wedding party, including headpieces and bouquets.
“I want my brides to have the most interesting showstopper gowns that are different from the rest.
“This doesn’t have to be hugely expensive, it simply comes down to a good eye for style and detail.”
